Cirrus instruction at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive (KMYF)
Montgomery-Gibbs is the busiest general-aviation field in the county and the one I fly out of most. It sits in Kearny Mesa directly under the San Diego Class B, which makes it an excellent place to learn to work with SoCal Approach and the tower, and a place where a disciplined departure and arrival matter. Parallel runways, a steady flow of training traffic, and the marine layer rolling in from the west on summer mornings give an instrument student everything they need within ten miles of the field.
For Cirrus owners based here, the usual training flow is a short brief at the hangar, a departure to the practice areas over the reservoirs to the east or the coast to the north, and approaches back into Montgomery or over to Gillespie and Brown to mix it up.
What I do here
- Cirrus transition and recurrent training in your SR20, SR22 or SR22T
- Instrument rating, IPC and currency
- Flight reviews and local airspace checkouts
- Ground instruction at the airport or online
I come to your hangar or tie-down; there is nothing to rent and nowhere else to drive. Book an intro call and tell me where the airplane lives.
Nearby
Gillespie Field (KSEE) is a few minutes east; McClellan-Palomar (KCRQ) is twenty minutes north on the coast. Brown Field (KSDM) to the south is a useful alternate and practice destination.
